瀬戸内を拠点に活躍する建築家、三分一（さんぶいち）博志氏。❝動く素材（風、水、太陽）❞をテーマにプロジェクトに取り組む三分一氏は、犬島精錬所美術館や直島「The Naoshima Plan」などのプロジェクトを手掛け、デンマーク王立美術アカデミーの建築学校でも教鞭をとっています。

三分一氏が手掛けたインスタレーションの一つに、2017年の日本デンマーク外交関係樹立150周年記念行事の一環としてデンマークにあるシステアナ美術間で開催された「三分一博志建築展『水』」があります。システアナ美術館は、デンマークの首都コペンハーゲンのフレデリクスベア地区に位置する美術館で、古くからある地下貯水池跡の広大な地下空間を持つ美術館です。当時、三分一氏は四季折々に変化するこの美術館の表情を一年を通して研究し、再び水を湛えた地下空間に厳島神社からインスピレーションを受けたインスタレーションを作り出し、会場を訪れた人々から高い評価を受けました。

今回、このシステアナ美術館と三分一氏が新たなプロジェクトに取り組むことが発表されました。

現在美術館として活用されいる3つの地下貯水池跡に、かつてはもう一つ貯水池が存在していたことが分かり、今回この4つ目の貯水池跡が三分一氏の手によって新たなスペースとして再現されるというもの。
発表されたスケッチからは、透明な天井を通し地下空間に注ぎ込む太陽の光、地上で水を貯えつつ地下の空間には透明な天井としても機能を果たす貯水池の姿などを見ることができます。

また、このプロジェクトを特集したWallpaperの記事では、三分一氏が、この新たなプロジェクトが、未来の人と地球の知的な関係にもインスピレーションを与えて行くような存在になってほしいと願ってることや、水でできた天井が地下の空間内の光や気候にどのような影響を与えるのか調査して行きたいと語っていることも掲載されています。

Hiroshi Sambuichi is a Japanese architect, based in the Setouchi area in Japan and known for projects such as Inujima Seirensho Art Museum or “The Naoshima Plan.” Sambuichi works closely with themes related to the moving materials, such as wind, water and sun. He is also known for his own approach to make architecture a part of the earth. Sambuichi is also an Honorary Professor at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ School of Architecture.

In 2017, when Japan and Denmark celebrated the 150^th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations, Cisternerne in Frederiksberg organized “HIROSHI SAMBUICHI: THE WATER” installation. During an entire year, Sambuichi made thorough research of the changing expressions of Cisternerne through the seasons. Based on his investigations, Sambuichi allowed nature to once again fill the former water reservoir with water. Visitors enjoyed experiencing the space by walking across the water on an interpretation of the Japanese shrine, Itsukushima, which lies on the island, Miyajima.

Cisternerne lately announced a new partnership with Sambuichi to creating the fourth chamber of Cisternerene.

In Sambuichi’s sketch of the fourth chamber publicized on the museum’s website, we can see the new light-filled chamber. The plan is to re-establish a mirrored basin and the basin will be made of glass and work as a transparent roof: A fourth chamber for Cisternerne.

Wallpaper also made coverage of this new project, including Sambuichi’s comment ‘For me, this is more than just a beautiful piece of architecture. I want this to serve as inspiration for future sustainable architecture and investigate the effects that a roof made of water will have on the light and the climate of the space.’
